Walter J. Lawrence, age 77, of Perry Avenue in Corning, NY went home to be with his Lord on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Guthrie Corning Hospital.

Walt was born March 9, 1941 in Elmira and was raised by his mother and step father Margaret (Burrell) and Charles Brink. He married Naomi Scouten on September 30, 1972 in Corning. He was employed by Corning Incorporated as a fire safety specialist.

Walt was a member of Quackenbush Hill Baptist Church, a founding member of the Elmira-Corning Astronomical Society, Corning American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Steel Workers Union. He enjoyed camping, playing guitar, gardening, roses, flying R/C planes, and spending time with his family and grandsons.

His survivors include his wife Naomi; son, Andrew (Sara) Lawrence of Corning; sister. Jerry (Clifford) Wood of Penn Yan; brother, Alfred Lawrence of Wayne, NY; three grandsons, Simon, Thomas, and Collin Lawrence; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on the Scouten side of the family. He was predeceased by his sister Lenora Miller.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 21st from 1 until 4 PM at Quackenbush Hill Baptist Church, 4371 College Avenue in Corning where funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM with Reverend Dan Barner officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Corning.

Memorial donations may be made in Walt's name to Quackenbush Hill Baptist Church, 4371 College Ave., Corning, NY 14830 or to the Elmira Corning Astronomical Society, c/o Dennis O'Connell, 25 Laurel Street, Corning, NY 14830.
