Obituary of Jack Jelliff

Jack Robert Jelliff, age 86, of Corning, NY passed away Friday, August 10, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.

Jack was born in Corning, NY on December 8, 1931 to the late Carl B. and Eleanor H. (Wnuk) Jelliff. He attended school in Corning and married Elizabeth Jane Nelson on June 2, 1954 in Harrodsburg, KY. Elizabeth predeceased him on June 11, 2011.

Jack served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 and the Reserves until 1960 as a wheel vehicle mechanic and a carpenter. He was a veteran of the Korean War and awarded the Korean Service Medal, 2 Bronze Service Stars, Merit Unit Commendations, United Nations Service Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal.

He was employed by (Corning Glass Works) Corning Incorporated as a laborer, glass cutter, and boiler operator with continuous service for forty-one and-a-half years from 1950 to 1990. He was also a member of the American Flint Glass Workers Union. He loved to fish, lumber (Jack), and was a lifetime member of the Crystal Valley Saddle Club. Jack will be remembered for his storytelling around a campfire while camping with family and friends and always being quick to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He built many barns and enjoyed spending time at the camp in the Adirondacks.

He is survived by daughters, Penni D.(Steve) Wilson of Corning, NY and Terry Jane (David) Morseman of Albany, NY; grandchildren: Michael D. Morseman, Robert E. Morseman, Samantha (Decota) Morseman, Brandon S. Wilson and Mollie (Peck) Wilson; great grandchildren: Jacob R. Morseman, Katie M. Morseman, Teagan E. Morseman, Anthony P. Morseman, Willow D. Wilson, Katie Reed and Shaun Lisk; Best friend, Thomas Sherwood; and his dog, Quincy. Jack was predeceased by brothers, Carl Jelliff and William Jelliff.

In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Jack's name to the Bath VA Medical Center, 76 Veterans Avenue, Bath, NY 14810. Jack's family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. R. Woglam, the nurses at CareFirst, Pastor Dan Barner of Quackenbush Hill Baptist Church, and to many close family and friends.

A private family burial will be in Elk Creek Cemetery in Borden, NY. Jack's family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
