Obituary of Frances Nitsche

Frances M. Nitsche, age 99 and life-long resident of Corning, NY died Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Guthrie Corning Hospital.

Fran was born on February 24, 1918 in Corning to John and Mary (Schneider) Morscholz. Fran was a graduate of CFA and married Joseph E. Nitsche, Sr. on June 7, 1952 in St. Mary's Church. He predeceased her in 1991. She was a devoted communicant of All Saints Parish.

After high school, Fran was hired by Dr. Alex Dowling where she helped with office procedures, used the microscope, did blood counts, and drew blood. Fran then started working in the personnel office at Corning Glass Works. While there, she started a bond drive. In 1944 she moved to the Credit Union office in Main Plant. She was promoted to and moved to the Fallbrook Plant to run the Credit Union there until starting her family. Fran returned to work after her children were grown as an account clerk at Gates Rockwell Department Store.

Loving mother of Anne Nitsche Payne of Savona and Joseph (Judy Mills) Nitsche, Jr. of Patagonia, AZ; grandmother to Sarah (Jared) Clark, Caldwell (Molly Patterson) Payne, and Lucas (Ashlyn Abercrombie) Nitsche; great grandmother to Mason, Connor, and Nolan; several nieces and nephews. Fran was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Gerhart and Clara Morscholz.

Calling hours will be held on Monday January 8th from 2 - 4 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, January 9th at St. Mary's Church, 155 State Street in Corning. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning.

The family will provide flowers and ask that memorial donations be made to All Saints Parish, 222 Dodge Avenue, Corning, NY 14830, Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike, Ste 420, Rockville, MD 20850, or to a charity of your choice.
