Obituary of Antonina DiSimone

The family of Antonina (Nina) Gammaro DiSimone, age 76 of Corning, NY who passed away on August 28, 2017, will receive friends at Haughey Funeral Home, 216 East First Street, Corning, NY on Thursday, August 31st from 5:00 - 8:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 AM on Friday, September 1st, 2017 at St. Mary's Church, 155 State Street, Corning, NY.

Nina was born January 3rd, 1941 in Caltavuturo, Sicily, Italy to Ignazio and Paolina Gammaro.  In 1953, Nina came to America with her mother and sister followed by her father and brother in 1954.  Nina graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1960 and obtained her cosmetology license in 1964.  She began working for Corning, Inc. in 1984 and retired in 2003.

Nina is survived by her daughters, Frances (Jamie) Kruszynski of Villa Park, IL and Paola (Steve) Kauffman of Painted Post, NY; sister Josephine (Homer) Stampp of Corning, NY; brother Anthony (Billie) Gammaro of Painted Post, NY; grandchildren, Hannah and Leah; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nina's favorite hobby was cooking for her family and friends. Other hobbies included reading, watching television, playing games on the computer, and she was always up for a poker game with friends. Once a month, you could find her out to lunch with the Fabulous Crystallettes Red Hats Society. Nina volunteered at the Corning American Legion and the South Corning Fire Department with the Auxiliary. She attended strength training and aerobic classes at the Corning Senior Center.  She travelled to Italy, England, Scotland, Wales, Mexico, the Bahamas, as well as many places throughout the United States.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations to the South Corning Volunteer Fire Department, 7 Clark Street, Corning, NY or the Corning American Legion Post 0746, 8 Caton Rd, Corning, NY.

Nina’s family has entrusted her care to the Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
