Obituary of James Negri

James Joseph Negri, age 93, of Corning, NY died Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Guthrie Corning Hospital.

Jim was born January 21, 1924 in Corning to Joseph and Concetta (Nasuta) Negri.

He served in the Army from 1942 to 1946 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.  He retired from Corning Incorporated as a Supply Manager in 1986.

Jim was a lifelong Corning resident, spending many winters in Florida after retirement.  He especially enjoyed the Miami Beach area where he had completed military training prior to his World War II deployment.

Jim had a passion for golf and was part of a large group of longtime friends who played courses in the Corning-Elmira area.  He spent his post-retirement years as an active member of Indian Hills Golf Course.

When at home, he could often be found puttering in the basement.  He used his talents for a variety of projects and frequently assisted family members with rebuilding and repairs.

He married Betty Woodhouse in 1948.  They resided in South Corning and had two children. He is survived by his son, Joseph Negri of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughter, Sharon Negri of Washington, DC; sister, Virginia Darcangelo of Corning; brother, Anthony Negri of Corning and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 - 7 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. 216 East First Street where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM.  Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery will follow services.

Memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to the golf organization for children, First Tee of Corning: www.thefirstteecorning.org.

Jim’s family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
