Obituary of Thomas English

Thomas English, age 70, of Corning, NY passed away on January 1, 2022, peacefully at his home.

Tom was born on September 12, 1951, in Corning. He was the son of Floyd W. English, Jr. and Carolyn C. (Cilley) English.

Tom was a graduate of Corning-Painted Post West High School and State University of New York at Brockport.  He worked in the construction industry in many capacities, in particular the operation of heavy equipment.  He participated in wrestling in high school and became a referee of high school wrestling events as an adult.  He followed the SUNY Brockport Wrestling program closely and participated in several capacities such as score and timekeeper in various wrestling tournaments hosted by SUNY Brockport.  He was particularly interested in emergency response and was an ambulance organization first responder as well as a dispatcher.  He was gifted in the application of communication equipment and participated in radio and communication organizations throughout his life.  He participated in and was particularly attentive to the implementation of safety policies and procedures associated with the Wine Glass Marathon, which usually finished in the Corning-Painted Post area, annually.

He is survived by his brothers, David (Marcia) English of Penn Yan, NY, and Douglas (Rebecca) English of Rochester, NY; niece, Lynne (Michael) Spies of Great Falls, VA; nephews, Eric English of Burlington, MA, Brian English of Albany, NY, and Andrew English of Rochester, NY; great-nieces and nephews: Nicholas Spies, Maya Spies, June Spies, Jerome English, and Liam English; uncles, Robert (Mary Lou) English of Summerville, FL, and William (Elizabeth) English of Foster City, CA; and by several cousins. Tom was predeceased by his mother and father.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Painted Post.
