Obituary of John James Pierri, Sr.

 

John James Pierri, Sr., age 95, of Corning, NY, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at his home.

 

He was born May 24, 1926 in Corning. He is the son of Peter and Julia (Cavalier) Pierri. 

John served his country honorably with the US Navy. He was a restaurant owner and operator for the majority of his 70 years in Corning. He was owner and operator of Johnny and Ray’s, Johnny’s 101 Club and co-operator of the R&M Restaurant with his son, Robert. His hobbies included bowling, playing cards with his friends, and playing daily lottery numbers, hence the nickname “Johnny Numbers”. He made many friends and enjoyed the countless customers throughout the years.

He is survived by his son, John (Pamela) Pierri Jr., and their children, Renee Bryce, Nicholas Pierri and Christopher Pierri; son, Robert Pierri, and his children, Daniel Pierri, Jordan Meeter Pierri and Julia Meeter Pierri; great grandchildren: Alexis, Claire, Lillian, Vivian, and Eli; brothers, Joseph Pierri and Anthony (Joan) Pierri.  

 

John is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Julia Pierri; wife, Yolonda Santucci Pierri; and seven siblings. 

 

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at St. Joseph the Carpenter, 8508 Main Street in Campbell, NY, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 AM with Father Peter Clifford officiating. He will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Corning alongside his wife. For the health and safety of the family and others, a mask is optional.

 

The family would like to thank the VA, CareFirst, friends: Joe and Elissa Tobia, John and Barb Festa, Donna Harrington, and Angie Youngman for the special care they extended to John.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bath VA Medical Center, Attn: Voluntary Service, 76 Veterans Avenue, Bath, NY 14830.

 

John’s family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
