Fernand J. Paulin (Fern), age 88, of Horseheads, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Appleridge Senior Living in Horseheads.

He was born on March 16, 1933 in Athol, MA to Joachim and Georgiana (Chiasson) Paulin.  After graduating from Athol High School in 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and retired after 20 years of active military service in 1972.  He continued his service working for the U.S. State Department in the Foreign Service until his retirement in 1989.

He met the love of his life, Maria del Carmen (Menendez) in Madrid, Spain in December 1956, and they were married less than a year later in August 1957.  Together, they raised their family and traveled the world including various assignments at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., Spain, Germany, Turkey, England, Ecuador, Cuba, Portugal & Switzerland before settling in Madrid, Spain.  He took great pleasure in developing and maintaining lifelong friendships with co-workers and families across the globe.  However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family. In 2009, Fern & Carmen moved to Corning, NY to be close to their family and then to Appleridge Senior Living in Horseheads, NY.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maria del Carmen Paulin; son, Michael Paulin (Eileen); daughter, Ana Paulin (Matthew P.
