Obituary of Gordon Roy McPherson

Gordon Roy McPherson, age 98, of Harleysville, PA, died Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Grand View Hospital in Sellersville, PA. 


He was born October 14, 1922 in Batavia, NY. He is the son of John Dwight and Winifred (Philleo) McPherson. He married Elaine Fletcher in 1945.


Gordon served in the United States Army. He and Elaine lived in the Corning-Painted Post, NY area for 33 years and raised three children. He was employed at Corning Glass for 31 years, retiring in 1984. While at Corning Glass, he worked in salary administration for 10 years before being appointed personnel manager for the technical staff division at Sullivan Park in 1963.


During his life in the Corning-Painted Post area, Gordon was one of the early founders of the Corning YMCA, serving as board president in 1968. He was a member of the Corning Rotary Club, the First Presbyterian Church, and then later attended the Corning First Methodist Church. He was a current member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Lansdale, PA.


Family came first for Gordon over the years. In his spare time, he enjoyed furniture refinishing, chair caning, playing bridge, and reading. 


He is survived by his daughter, Marybeth (Richard) Ruediger of Collegeville, PA; sons, Keith McPherson of Painted Post and John McPherson of Saratoga Springs, NY; grandchildren: Peter (Indi) McPherson of Clifton Park, NY, Griffin McPherson of Saratoga Springs, and Maryellen Ruediger of Collegeville; and several nieces and nephews.


He was predeceased by his wife, Elaine Fletcher McPherson, in 2007; sister, Helen Baker; and brothers, Warren McPherson and Hobart McPherson.


There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held in the Spring at Fairview Cemetery in Painted Post.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Gordon’s memory to a charity of your choice.


Gordon’s family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
