Obituary of Margaret C. Scheidweiler

Margaret C. Scheidweiler, age 78, of Painted Post, NY died Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Absolut Care at Three Rivers.


Meg was born on October 17, 1942 in Bath, NY to Werner (“Sam”) and Mary Dellie (Madison) Mori.  She graduated from Hammondsport Central School and graduated from Jean Summers Business School in Elmira, NY. She married her beloved husband, William Scheidweiler, Sr. on July 27, 1963 at St. James Episcopal Church in Hammondsport, NY. The couple shared many hobbies and interests through their 57 years of marriage.


Meg was previously employed by the Corning City School District as a secretary, the Town of Erwin as deputy clerk, and by Ingersoll-Rand as secretary to portable compressor engineering. She was also a longtime member of Eastern Star where she developed many close relationships including weekly card games with four very dear friends later in life. She enjoyed swimming, music, and reading. She took great pride in raising her four children and being actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren. Meg enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends. She loved traveling throughout the Caribbean with her family and enjoyed visiting close friends when they were in Colorado.


Meg placed great importance on helping others and her community. Her caring, friendly nature and beautiful smile will be missed by many. She was an active volunteer for several organizations, including Corning Meals On Wheels and several church committees at Christ Episcopal Church such as the Altar Guild, Sunday School, church newsletter, Vestry, and the Christmas Giving Tree. She also volunteered for the PTA, West High Marching Band, Corning Hospital, Boy Scouts, Troop 29, where she served on the review board for Eagle Scouts, and the Village of Painted Post Planning Board.


Family and church were always of the utmost importance to Meg. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill; daughter, Susan (David) Carlson of Hudson, FL; sons: William Scheidweiler, Jr. of Olean, NY, Steven Scheidweiler of Dryden, NY, Karl Scheidweiler of Claremont, CA; her six grandchildren: Samuel, Elijah, Nathaniel, Justin, Ashleigh, and Riley; siblings: Anne (Bruce) Erway of Honeoye Falls, NY, Albert (Bonnie) Mori of Dale City, VA, Mary Ruth Schoonover of Thurston, NY; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Mori of Bath and Nancy Mori of Newark, NY; brothers-in-law, Bernard (Martha) Scheidweiler of Piney Flats, TN and Fritz (Tonya) Scheidweiler of Little Rock, AR; several nieces and nephews. 


Meg was predeceased by her siblings: Robert Mori, Louise Hunn, Ernest Mori, and Tyrell Mori.


Funeral services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Corning in the Spring of 2021 and will be announced.


Memorial donations may be made in Meg’s name to Christ Episcopal Church, 33 East First Street, Corning, NY 14830 or to a charity of your choice.


Meg’s family entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
