Obituary of Sterling Edgar Crook

Sterling Edgar “Ed” Crook, age 83, of Corning, NY died Monday, November 16, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.


Ed was born January 6, 1937 in Scranton, PA to Sterling and Grace (Hedglin) Crook.  Ed served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1959 and then worked for Ingersoll-Rand Company in Painted Post, NY where he retired in 1997.  


Ed was an avid Nascar fan as well as a life-long model railroad enthusiast. Ed will lovingly be remembered as a devoted family man and a beloved member of the community. Ed was a man of faith, and he worshipped and served many years at Grace United Methodist Church.


He is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 34 years; daughters, Susan (John) Cabral of Oceanside CA, Beth (Martin) Russo of Corning; step-son, Doug (Donna) Wicks of Morris, PA; step-daughters, Janice (Bill) Landfair of Norfolk, VA, Sheila (Mark) DeRaad of Redding, WA. In addition to his immediate family, Ed is survived by sisters: Janice Kimbrough of Longwood, FL, Barbara Crook of Middlebrook, FL, Sandra Davis of Avoca, PA, and Donna (Ken) Richards of Dalton, PA. Ed is also survived by a loving family of nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a large extended family including nieces, nephews and cousins.


Due to COVID restrictions, a private family memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Grace United Methodist Church, 191 Bridge Street in Corning. All COVID-19 regulations apply.


At this time in lieu of flowers, friends and family may make donations in his memory to CareFirst NY, 3805 Meads Creek Road, Painted Post, NY 14870.
