Bertha Anne "Anne" Tietje

Bertha Anne Tietje, age 89, of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Campbell, NY, rested in God's loving embrace on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Hope Hospice House in Fort Myers.

Anne was born on April 22, 1929 in Corning to Claude and Augusta (Martin) Travis. She attended schools in Caton and Corning, graduating from Northside High School in 1947. Following graduation, Anne began nursing school, but love was kindled and instead she chose to marry Edward Tietje, Jr. on March 28, 1948 (with whom she shared over 65 years of marriage). She entered the workforce holding several positions with the New York Telephone Company where she worked for 30+ years.

Throughout her life, Anne expressed her devotion to Jesus Christ through active participation in the life and ministry of the church. She taught children's church, Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, participated in women's ministries, sang in the choir, and also played the organ or piano for worship services. While living in Campbell, she was a long-time member of the Erwin Valley Alliance Church and also attended the North Baptist Church. After moving to Florida, she was a member of the Lehigh Acres Baptist Church. At the age of 80, Anne traveled to Guatemala on her first mission trip.

Never one to sit still, Anne busied herself with all the chores of homemaking and parenting. She excelled in cooking, whether for special holiday meals or evening dinners… and she generously shared her meals and hospitality with guests. Anne was also known for her skill as a seamstress regularly creating clothing, window treatments, quilts and stuffed bears.

Known for her warm personality and frequent hugs, Anne was beloved to many, but most especially to her children and grandchildren. Anne was predeceased by her husband Edward on February 11, 2014 and her second husband John Clapper on September 5, 2018. She is survived by her children, Suzanne Hatatah of Sarasota, FL; Edward Tietje, III of Campbell; David Tietje of Red Lion, PA and their families, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00AM on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street, Corning, NY with one of her beloved pastors, the Reverend Jesse Peace, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Painted Post.
