Ellen Mary Regan

Ellen Mary Regan, age 91, of Horseheads, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Steuben Center in Bath, NY.

Ellen was born on January 28, 1930, in Corning, NY, to Lawrence and Helen (Cadigan) Regan. After graduating from Painted Post High School, Ellen earned her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo. Soon after she received her master’s degree from Syracuse University and her Doctorate from SUNY Albany. She taught for a few years in the Corning area and then eventually settled in Toronto, Canada as a professor at the University of Toronto.

Ellen spent over 30 years teaching at the University of Toronto, specifically at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Her passion was education, specifically the education of children. Ellen was also able to travel the world to see and visit friends in Israel and Europe. She loved Canada and the city of Toronto but always came home to Painted Post for the holidays and vacations.

In 1994 Ellen retired from teaching and returned to the Corning area but continued to travel. She remained very active in the Corning area Catholic churches as well as volunteering with groups such as Meals on Wheels. Ellen also served as the historian for the Town of Erwin.

Ellen loved sports. She was a diehard Buffalo Bills and Toronto Blue Jays fan. She was just as happy sitting at a game in Orchard Park in the snow as she would be on a river cruise in Europe. She was even lucky enough to be in the stands the night the Blue Jays beat the Phillies for their second world series title.

Ellen is survived by her niece, Mary Regan of Long Island City, NY; nephews, Thomas (Terri Calhoun) Regan, Jr. of Spotsylvania, VA, Joseph Regan of Camp Hill, PA and Peter (Tona Jane Lokey) Mondesir of Gastonia, NC.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas F. Regan, Sr; sister, Rosemary Regan; sister-in-law, Barbara (Hussey) Regan; and her parents, Lawrence Regan and Helen (Cadigan) Regan.
