Earl "Pete" Woodhouse, age 88, of Murphy Road in Corning, NY died on December 31, 2021 at Guthrie Corning Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Pete was born on February 18, 1933 in Corning to Thomas and Mary (Kittner) Woodhouse. He was a graduate of Corning Free Academy and served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He married Jean Chalk, the mother of his two children, who passed away in 1973, and later married Joan Wolff.
He owned and operated several businesses in the community for many years, including Niles Grill, The Woodhouse Tavern and Pete's Tavern. He was a communicant of All Saints Parish, and a member of the Elks Lodge, Corning VFW, and the longest member of the Big Flats American Legion.
His survivors include his wife, Joan; daughter, Virginia Bart; son, Peter (Sandra) Woodhouse; grandchildren: Grayson Woodhouse, Catherine Woodhouse, DeLaney Woodhouse, and Miles Woodhouse; brother, Richard Daniel Woodhouse; and sister, Shirley Ross. Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; sisters: Betty Bliss, Margaret Lovell, Sally Thompson, and Mary Speciale; brothers: James Woodhouse, Thomas Woodhouse, and Charles Woodhouse.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 5th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 East First Street in Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 6th at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, 155 State Street in Corning with Father Matthew Jones officiating. Burial with full military honors will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning.
Memorial donations may be made in Pete's name to the American Cancer Society.
