Gerald (Jerry) Spencer Vine, age 63, of Corning, NY, passed away Monday, August 2, 2021, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
Jerry was born October 25, 1957, in Corning. He is the son of Gerald Clark and Constance J. (Spencer) Vine. He married Elizabeth Kane on September 20, 1980, at St. Vincent's Church in Corning.
Jerry was a 1976 graduate of Corning East High School, and he was employed by Corning Natural Gas Corp. as a field service representative. He loved science, film, and history, and was always trying to learn as much as possible about space, the oceans, and any “creepy crawler” imaginable, especially his all-time favorite, spiders. Friends of Jerry will tell you he had a larger-than-life personality and that he was always the life of any party — and also the loudest attendee. Jerry’s favorite pastime was sitting on his front porch or the beach in cutoff shorts and a tank top while smoking a cigar and drinking a beer. He loved his wife and best friend Bethie, and his three beautiful girls, more than anything. When asked he would always say he was, “Livin’ the dream!”
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Vine; his three girls: Kelsie (Alex) Simon, Kirsten (Florian Gollier) Vine, and Jillian (Derek Allen) Vine; sisters: Connie (Loren) Oakden, Linda Ives, and Mary McCarey; granddaughter, Juniper Simon; uncle, John (Velva) Vine; brothers-in-law, Daniel Kane and Thomas (Yvonne) Kane; sister-in-law, Kathleen Kane; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank all of his friends and neighbors for their endless support, as well as the ICU team at Corning Hospital.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Constance Vine, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Daniel and Marilyn Kane.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 9th from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First St. in Corning. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 10th at Haughey Funeral Home with Father John DeSocio officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Corning.
