James A. VanAlstine

James A. VanAlstine, age 78, of Campbell, NY went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

 

Jim was born on April 7, 1943 in Corning to Adrian and Edna (Everts) VanAlstine.  He married Bonnie Maynard on October 11, 1969 in Erwin Grove Church.  He was a 1960 graduate of Northside High School and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968.  He worked for Corning Incorporated as a sheet metal worker and retired in 1999 after 37 years with the company. He also worked for the Southern Tier Library System, Fox Auto Group, and Perry & Thompson Ford Inc.

 

He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and listening to music.  He was a member of the Campbell American Legion, IAABO Board #156 and Beartown Road Alliance Church where he held many positions over the years.  A few of his awards were: 50 Year Pin from Corning Incorporated, Boys Basketball Outstanding Probationary Official 1998-1999, 1st Place 3 on 3 basketball trophy 1988, and 1st Place Senior Games 2012 softball team.  He coached Little League, played basketball, softball, bowled, refereed basketball, umpired softball, and was a long-time LA Dodger’s fan.

 

Jim truly loved spending time with grandkids, family, and friends.

 

He is survived by his wife Bonnie: son, Nathan (Regina) VanAlstine of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Tarick, Ericka, Kayleigh, Nevaeh, Nadia, Braylee,  Haylee, Austyn, Brycen, and Liam; sisters, Kathy Rounds of Addison and Pat (Ron) Foster of Coopers Plains; brothers, Gary (Jackie) VanAlstine of Campbell and David (Kathy) VanAlstine of Cicero, IN; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; mother-in-law, Iva “Buddy” Maynard of Tyrone, NY; brother-in-law, Steve Maynard of California; sister-in-law, Sharon Maynard of Painted Post; and brother-in-law, Wayne Noss of Harrisburg, PA.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brayden VanAlstine; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ronnie, Randy, Cathy, Nancy Maynard, and Dick Rounds; father-in-law, Dale Maynard.

 

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 5th from 1-4 pm at Beartown Road Alliance Church where funeral services will follow at 4 PM with Pastor Dave Bretch officiating.  Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery.
