Steven J. Durkin, age 56, of Horseheads, NY died Wednesday, March 31, 2021 in Painted Post, NY.
Steven was born on June 5, 1964 in Corning, NY to John Durkin and Carolyn “Corky” Gauss Kennedy. He was a graduate of West High School and earned his Associates Degree from Corning Community College. He was employed by Corning Incorporated for over 29 years.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, playing golf, watching the Yankees and the Bills, and enjoyed woodworking. Steven was a legend in the wiffle ball world. He was a three-time Gold Glove champion and had a .358 batting average.
He is survived by his children, Christopher Durkin of Buffalo and Alexis Durkin of Painted Post and; father, John (Barb) Durkin of Pine City; mother, Carolyn Kennedy of Horseheads, NY; brother, Paul (Amy) Durkin of Gulf Breeze, FL; sisters, Susan (James) Sonner of Corning and Karen Mazzarese of Lawrenceville, PA; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; aunts and uncles: Chuck (Judy) Gauss of Campbell, Bill Gauss of Leesburg, FL, and Mike (Coleene) Durkin of Caton.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 8th from 2 - 5 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 9th at 9:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, 155 State Street in Corning with Father Matthew Jones officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning.
