Lyle J. Kimball, age 86, passed away at home on Thursday, March 18th, 2021.
Lyle was born February 8, 1935, in Canastota, NY and moved to Corning, NY with his parents shortly thereafter, where he lived his entire life. He graduated from Northside High School in 1953 and married Marietta Joseph, his wife of 57 years, in 1963. Lyle was a proud lifelong employee of Corning Incorporated and enjoyed his business travels to Poland, Mexico, and Canada, as well as his extended time spent in China as Corning expanded there.
Lyle was an enthusiastic athlete and outdoorsman. In 1952, he was a member of the NHS baseball team that defeated East High School of Rochester 1-0 in a no-hitter for the Class AA baseball title. In addition to baseball, Lyle was a lifelong golfer and a 40-year member of Corning Country Club, where he served for a number of years on the Board of Directors. Through his sons, he was a passionate hockey parent and one of the early supporters and contributors to the Twin Tiers Amateur Hockey Association. Lyle was a devoted Montreal Canadiens and Los Angeles Dodgers fan and proudly watched “his Dodgers” win the world series in 2020.
Later in life, he enjoyed his grandchildren’s exploits in hockey, baseball, and ski racing. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to cook (highlighted by his famous homemade sauerkraut that he made annually).
He is survived by his wife, Marietta; his three sons, Gregg and wife Patti of South Glastonbury, CT, Lee and wife Leigh of Raleigh, NC, and Jeffrey of Atlanta, GA; his 5 grandchildren: Paul, Katherine, David, Victoria, and Andrew; as well as his sister, Madeline Kimball.
