Douglas E. Benjamin, age 75, of Corning, NY died Thursday, March 4, 2021 at his home in Corning.
Doug was born on August 7, 1945 in Corning to Elwyn and Bertha (Catchpole) Benjamin. He married Debra Vang in 2004 and was preceded in death by her in 2010.
Following graduation from Northside High School in 1963, Doug joined the US Airforce and served for four years. He worked in the trades (tinner) at Corning Glass Works until his retirement ten years ago.
Doug’s hobbies and interests included working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, walking, and watching the Yankees. Upon retirement, Doug spent many years volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. Doug was inducted into the Corning - Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame for track and field. Doug enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by two sisters, Marjorie (Thomas) Putnam of Horseheads and Marilyn Saunders of Corning; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Carolyn (David) Schuler, Mike (Brenda) Vang, John (Linda) Vang, Robert (Diane) Vang, and Richard Vang; many nieces, nephews, and Cousins. Doug was predeceased by his brother, Steven Benjamin.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 9th from 2 - 5 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning. Committal services will be held at the convenience of the family at Goodsell Cemetery in Hornby.
