Barbara K. Lobdell, age 88, of Corning, NY, died Monday, January 18, 2021 at home.
She was born August 2, 1932 in Van Etten, NY to Earl and Ethel Koop. She married Joseph Lobdell on September 18, 1954 in Van Etten.
After finishing high school, Barb worked at Rose, Kimball and Baxter as a bookkeeper where she met her great lifelong friend, Eleanor Kent.
Barb and Joe enjoyed 38 years together raising their family, horses, and square dancing. They were dedicated parents and were faced with many challenges. Young Mark was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus and as a result was severely handicapped. Barb and Joe purchased a farm in Hornby to provide a place to not only care for Mark but to entertain the family with horses, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, hunting, and great times together. Joe’s mother, Roseanna, joined the family to assist with caregiving. To the end, Barb loved to recall good times and stories of life on the farm and of her love for Joe.
Barbara was a voracious reader, and even after losing her eyesight in her later years, the family was challenged to keep up with her passion with the latest books on audio. She always kept up on current events as well as the local and national news. If you wanted to argue politics with Barb, you needed to be prepared with facts!! Barb kept a little book listing the hundreds of books she had read over the years.
Barb had a love of travel and was able to go to various destinations around the world.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Heather (Michael) Lobdell Jones of Watkins Glen, NY; sons, David (Linda) Lobdell of Painted Post, NY and J. Edward (Janice) Lobdell of Montrose, PA; grandson, Wesley (Christina Emrick) Lobdell; great-grandson, William Lobdell; sister, Beverly Ring; brother, Bernard (Jean) Koop; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Lobdell on 10/5/1992, her son, Mark Lobdell (1972), and her sister, Betty Cundy.
A private graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Elmira, NY with Rev. Len Robinson officiating.
