Alvin C. “Schoonie” Schoonover, age 92, of Painted Post, NY passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Absolut Care at Three Rivers.
He was born on May 18, 1928 in Painted Post to Walter and Gladys (Thompson) Schoonover. Schoonie graduated from Painted Post High School in 1946 and married Janet (Jake) Konigstein on November 2, 1946 in Painted Post. Schoonie and his wife lived in the Corning area all their married life.
He retired from Ingersoll-Rand Company in Painted Post as an Engineer in 1986; having traveled many places in the world and in the United States, helping solve compressor problems. Schoonie loved to golf with his many friends. Upon retirement, he and his wife did volunteer work helping missionaries in the United States and overseas. Schoonie loved the Lord.
Schoonie is survived by his loving wife Jake; daughter, Jeanette (Dennis) Rost of Byesville, OH; sons, Bruce (Penny) Schoonover of Lindley and Zain (Peachy) Schoonover of Corning; 7 grandchildren: Shelby Schoonover of Marion, NY, Josh Schoonover of Lindley, Ryan (Jane) Schoonover of Lindley, Bethy (Josh) Wilkins of Williamson, NY, Jessica (Jason) Leckrone of Dresden, OH, Jill (Brian) Ash of Zanesville, OH, and Derek Rost of Byesville, OH; 10 great grandchildren; and Bucky Wenderlick, who always considered Schoonie his dear old dad, from Christiansburg, VA.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Harold Schoonover and wife, Marjory, and also premature child, Cheryl Ann.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, August 8 from 10 AM – 12 PM at East Lindley Baptist Church, 10039 Tannery Creek Road, Corning where the funeral will follow at Noon with Rev. Sheldon Roblyer officiating. Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery. All New York State Covid-19 regulations will apply.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the East Lindley Baptist Church.
