William R. Winton, age 68, of Corning, died Monday, May 5, 2014 at Corning Hospital. Bill was born June 13, 1945 in Montour Falls to Harry and Bernice (Conklin) Winton. Bill served his country in the United States Army from 1964 to 1967. He worked as an automotive mechanic before working as head of maintenance for the Corning Salvation Army on Denison Parkway in Corning for over 20 years. Bill was an active member of the John P. Eaton American Legion Post 746 in South Corning. He is survived by his wife Joanne; six daughters, Mary Swartout of Elmira, Tina (Don) McChesney of Mooresville, NC, Doreen Andrews of Corning, Joleen McManus of Corning, and Heidi Nicholson of Corning; two sons, Roger (Nicole) Winton of Elmira and David Boyd of Corning; brother, Melvin Winton of Elmira; 35 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; one niece; adopted daughter, Dove Angel of Genesee, PA. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at First Baptist Church, 110 East First Street in Corning, with Reverend Mary Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church in Corning in Bill's name. Bill's family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
