William S. "Sonny" Havlin Obituary (1934 - 2012)

William "Sonny" Havlin, age 78, of Pioneer Road in Painted Post N.Y. died Saturday December 22nd, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y. Sonny was born January 18, 1934 in Altoona, P.A. to Earl and Thelma (Eldred) Havlin. He married Dorothy Simmons on November 9th, 1968. Sonny served his country in the United States Army. He was employed by local #1358 in Elmira, N.Y. as a laborer. Sonny was best known for his story telling to family and friends. He was a coal miner at an early age in Altoona, P.A. He and Dorothy loved to take rides looking for yard sales. He was known as a "wheeler-dealer" and loved making deals. He enjoyed coffee time with his special friends. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dorothy at home; two step sons, Steven (Catherine) Holmes of Savona and Gregory (Brenda) Hafer of Corning; sister, Lois Lidwell of Altoona, P.A; sisters in law, Doris Monahan of Painted Post and Hilda Heacox of Altoona, P.A.; special niece and nephew, Debbie Mason of Corning, and Tony (Jill) Gasparri of Painted Post; grandchildren, Ashliegh Higgins, Courtney and Kiersten Hafer of Corning, Michelle (Michael) Cleveland of N.C., Shane (Terri) Holmes of Savona, and Brandon (Mattie) Holmes of Campbell; several nieces and nephews of Altoona, P.A.; nine great grandchildren. At Sonny's request there will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be provided by the family at a later date to be announced. Haughey Funeral Home Inc. of Corning has been entrusted with arrangements.
