Wahneta M. Costa

Wahneta M. Costa, 99, of Corning, NY, one of the main branches of her family tree, passed away on January 8, 2023, at the Guthrie Corning Hospital.

Wahneta was born on Feburary 03, 1923 in Binghamton, NY to Nelson and Mary (Loui) Tennant in 1923.

She was a graduate of Bradford Central School, class of 1941.

Wahneta married Joseph Costa in 1947 at St. Mary's Church.

She was employed at Corning, Inc. for 35 years but retired early to take care of Joe, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. She was his caregiver for 33 years.

Wahneta delivered cookies and other goodies to shut-ins for years because baking was one of her passions. She loved sewing and always said her sewing machine was one of her best friends; a seamstress who could make anything. Wahneta had a gift for writing poems and did exceptionally well at it.

She was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Wahneta is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Scott) Stanton of Marcellus, NY; son, Mark (Kathy) Costa; grandchildren, Lindsey Suppes, Ashley Costa, and Cory Costa; and her loving neighbors and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; sisters, Kathleen Sokolowski and Helen Morse; and brothers, Aubrey Tennant and Foster Tennant.

Wahneta asked that flowers be provided by the family, but please take a friend to lunch in her memory.

There will be a public visitation from 10-11 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2023, with a service to follow at 11 AM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc, 216 E. 1st Street in Corning, with Deacon Dave LaFortune officiating. Entombment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum in Corning.
