Virginia A. Kelly, age 85, of Corning, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Corning Centers.\n\n\n Virginia was born November 12, 1931 to the late Thomas and Agnes (Cain) Kelly. She attended Corning Free Academy. Immediately after graduating, she began working for Corning Glass Works as a Payroll Clerk, retiring in 1983 with over 30 years of service. \n\n\nAt a young age, Virginia was very independent and began a paper route at the age of 9. Even though her work was very important to her during her life, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and being the life of the party. Virginia was known to be outgoing, fun, and very social.\n\n\nVirginia enjoyed the many aspects of life. She was competitive in everything that she did, especially in bowling, golf, softball, and checkers, accumulating many trophies over the years. She traveled to Vermont, Canada, and Switzerland to participate in her favorite sport, skiing.\n\n\nShe is survived by her nieces and nephews: Jeff (Jeanne) Smith of NY, Timothy (Judith) Smith of CO, Corrine (Kevin) Smith-Geiger of VT, Anne (Ted) Martin of NY, Agnes DiDomenico of NY, Neil Kelly of NY, Kathleen (Mike) Waldmiller of FL, Maureen Rhode of FL, Colleen (Ed) Mercadante of CT, Sheila Kelly of GA and many special friends.\n\n\nVirginia was predeceased by her brothers, Thomas Kelly Jr., Robert D. Kelly, Joseph T. Kelly and sister, Eileen Kelly Smith.\n\n\nA Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at St. Mary's Church, 155 State Street, Corning, NY with Father Lew Brown officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.\n\n\nDonations can be made in memory of Virginia to the Fingerlakes SPCA, 7315 State Route 54, Bath, NY, 14810.\n\n\nVirginia's family has entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. \n\n \n\n\n.
