Painted Post, NY
We celebrate the life and cherish the memory of Vaughn A. O'Shanick, a loving and charismatic soul, who was born on the 7th of September, 1946 in Corning, NY, and left this world on the 1st of September, 2026. His captivating spirit, adventurous nature, and ambition will continue to inspire us all. To quote Mark Twain, "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did." Vaughn lived by this philosophy, embracing every opportunity life offered him.
An accountant for the US Government, Vaughn's hardworking nature was evident in his career that spanned over 25 years at the Bath VA National and Woodlawn National Cemetery. Always the first to extend a helping hand, his caring and thoughtful demeanor made him a beloved figure in his workplace. He was a proud member of the Moose Club and held a deep reverence for his faith, being very involved in the Victory Highway Wesleyan Church in Painted Post, NY. He was an E4 in the Navy, served in the Navy Reserve, and later joined the Pennsylvania National Guard. His adventurous spirit led him to reside in several places, including Pennsylvania and Florida, but he always held a special place for his residence in Painted Post.
Vaughn was a man of many passions. He was a fervent sports enthusiast, with a particular love for football, golf, and baseball. His achievements in golf and drum corps were a testament to his ambitious spirit. He also enjoyed card games and traveling, with fond memories of trips to Jamaica and Ocean City, Maryland. He also loved cruises. However, what mattered most to Vaughn were his beloved cats, Meera and Mitzy, and his family, who meant the world to him.
Vaughn is survived by his children, Frank O'Shanick, Jill Walborn, and Timothy O'Shanick; sisters, Valerie Mattison and Fran Cucchiara; sister-in-law, Linda O'Shanick; and cousins, Crystal McKibbin and Daryl McKibbin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Frank O'Shanick, and his brother, Harry O'Shanick.
A Funeral Service for Vaughn will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026 at Noon at Victory Highway Wesleyan Church, 150 Victory Highway, Painted Post, NY. Military Honors and Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at Bath National Cemetery, San Juan Avenue, Bath, NY.
As we remember Vaughn, we invite you to share your favorite memories and photographs of him on his memorial page at www.haugheyfuneralhome.com. Each shared memory serves to further illustrate the remarkable life he led and the deep impact he had on those around him.
