Thomas J. Dates, age 76, of West Second Street in Corning, NY died Friday, September 6, 2013 at Corning Hospital following a brief illness.\n\n\nTom was born on February 7, 1937 in Corning to James and Doris (Thomas) Dates. He married Beverly Riley on July 19, 1958 in Caton. He served in the National Guard from 1959 to 1966 and retired from Corning Incorporated in 1994 as an engineering technician, and was selected as a Senior Associate. Tom loved cars and cameras. He loved spending time with his family and taking photos of them. He was a 3rd Degree Mason, was a member of the John P. Eaton Post of the American Legion in Corning, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Corning.\n\n\nTom's survivors include his wife of 55 years, Beverly; two sons, Ted (Lynn) Dates and Jason Dates; brothers, Daryl (Diana) Dates of Thurston and Dale (Stephanie) Dates of Painted Post; grandchildren, Olivia and Rachael Dates and Abby and Tommy O'Brian; several nieces and nephews; several brothers and sisters-in-law. Tom was preceded in death by his son Timothy in 1966.\n\n\nCalling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 11th from 10 until 12 Noon at First Baptist Church, 110 East First Street in Corning where funeral services will follow at Noon with Reverend Mary Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Caton.\n\n\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 110 East First Street, Corning, NY 14830 or to the children's after school program at the Corning Salvation Army, 32 Denison Parkway East, Corning, NY 14830.\n\n\nTom's family has entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. in Corning.
