Sylvia Kay Huber, age 77, of Horseheads, NY formerly of Seneca Street in Corning, NY died Monday, June 24, 2013 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Sylvia was born on August 17, 1935 in Corning to Myron and Gladys (Lee) Hunt. She married Philip Huber on July 27, 1957 at Christ Church in Corning. She was a graduate of Northside High School and Corning Community College. She had worked as a cashier for over thirty years with Fay's Drugs, Fays - Brooks, Eckerd's, and Rite Aid Pharmacy's. Sylvia was the President of the Corning Area United Taxpayers Association, a member of the Corning Painted Post School Board for 8 years, started the PTA at Gregg School, was a Literacy Advocate in several schools, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a Girl Scout Leader. She is survived by her husband Philip; daughter, Sandra Huber of Horseheads; son, Stephen (Mariana) Huber of Painted Post; two sisters, Janet "Pat" Gridley of Corning and Phyllis Newman of Jamestown, NY; two brothers, George (Awanda) Hunt of Corning and Don Hunt of Horseheads; two grandchildren, Daniel Huber and Christopher Huber; nieces and nephews, Sharon (John) McCormick, Don (Erma) Hunt, Nancy Preston, Debra (Terry) Kittner, and Timothy Hunt; close friend, Nancy Huber of Southport, NC; and many special friends. Sylvia was predeceased by her daughter, Amy Jo Huber, a sister, Jacquelyn Ripley, and by a nephew, William Gridley. Friends are invited to a calling hour at Christ Episcopal Church, 39 East First Street in Corning from 10 until 11 AM on Thursday, June 27, 2013 followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM with Reverend Charles Tyo officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Caton. The family will provide flowers and asks that memorial donations be made in Sylvia's name to Christ Episcopal Church, 39 East First Street, Corning, NY 14830 or to the American Cancer Society, 1316 College Avenue, Elmira, NY 14901. Sylvia's family has entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning.
