Samuel A. Kapral, age 95, of Big Flats died on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Elcor following a brief battle with cancer. Sam was born in Corning, NY on January 6, 1921, the youngest of five children of John and Catherine Suchonic Kapral. At age 19 he joined the US Coast Guard and served 5 years during WWII. He married his wife, Evelyn, on November 17, 1944 in New York City while on leave. She predeceased him on October 11, 2015 just 37 days short of their 71st wedding anniversary. They made their home in Corning until 1958 when they moved to Big Flats. \n\n\nSam's entire work career was with the Apparatus Plant of Corning, Inc. He recently received his 75 year pin. He enjoyed fishing, golf, working in his yard and garden. He and Evelyn canned produce, made relishes, pickles, jams and jellies which they generously gave to friends, neighbors and anyone who stopped by. Nobody ever left their home empty-handed. Sam helped many people in his life with whatever they needed.\n\n\nHe is survived by his daughter, Karen Cullen of Elmira; son, Chris (Lucinda) Kapral of Austin, TX; granddaughters, Susan (Norberto) Rosado of Elmira; Laura (Mike) Binkowski of Bath, NY; grandsons, William and David Kapral of Austin, TX; great-grandchildren, Michael, Connor, and Aleah Binkowski of Bath, NY; his good friend, Duane Amundsen of Big Flats; many nieces and nephews and his cat "Pepper". He was predeceased by his wife, parents, brothers and sisters and their spouses, all of his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, four nephews and three nieces. \n\nHe will be greatly missed by all who loved him.\n\n\nFuneral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
