Sam Fazzari, age 91, formerly of Wolf Run Road in Campbell, NY died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Guthrie Corning Hospital. Sam was born on March 20, 1924 in Santa Christina, Italy to Vincenzo and Francesca (Trapani) Fazzari and came to the United States when he was 10 years old. He married Carmen Tallarida on November 24, 1951 and was preceded in death by her on October 18, 2001. He served in the Army during World War II in Company B 574th Signal Air Warning Battalion in the South Pacific. He had worked for Grumman Aircraft on Long Island, owned and operated the Savona Liquor Store and Star Food Market on Pulteney Street. He retired from Ingersoll-Rand Company as a machinist in 1989. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, making syrup and wine, deer hunting, and bowling. He loved to spend time with family and friends, and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Mary-Ann (Steven) Morehouse of Corning, NY; son, James (Tina) Fazzari of Corning; brother, Dominick (Theresa) Fazzary of Bradenton, FL; grandchildren, Madeleine (Shawn) Southard, Gregory Morehouse, Timothy Morehouse, Jimmy Fazzari, and Vincent Fazzari; godson, James Pangallo of West Hempstead, NY; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Geraldine, Michael, Jenny, Mary, and Carmela. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 31st from 1-4 pm at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 1st at St. Joseph The Carpenter, 8505 Main Street in Campbell with Father Patrick Connor officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Elkland, PA immediately following Mass with full military honors. The family will provide flowers and ask that memorial donations be given to St. Joseph The Carpenter, 8505 Main Street, Campbell, NY 14821.
