Robert L. Saunders, age 94, of West William Street in Corning, died Friday, April 28, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.\n\n \n\nBob was born on February 28, 1923 in Corning to Thomas and Gertrude (Krouse) Saunders. He was a graduate of Corning Free Academy and served his country in the Marine Corps during World War II. He retired from Corning Incorporated in 1984 as a supervisor.\n\n \n\nBob enjoyed feeding and watching birds, and growing and nurturing roses. He also enjoyed doing scramble puzzles, teasing people with his quick wit, and was a Mets fan. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Gibson.\n\n \n\nHe is survived by his wife Florence; children, Nancy Stonier of Tuncanic, PA, Thomas (Debbie) Saunders of Big Flats; step children, Sharon Mayes of Tullahoma, TN, Janice (Jerry) Grace of Painted Post, Patricia (Jim) Kaul of Elmira, Velvet Simmons of Canandaigua, Robert (Star) Preset of Corning, Steven Preset of Corning, and Jackee (Don) Davis of Big Flats; 25 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister, Mary (Dale) Powers of Painted Post.\n\n\nBob was predeceased by his son, Robert; brothers, Tommy, Albert, and Charles; sisters, Dorothy Brace, Leah Tietje, and Catherine Benedict.\n\n \n\nCalling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 3rd from 1-3 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning where funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Pastor Jefferey Becker officiating. Burial will be in Rural Home Cemetery in Big Flats.\n\n \n\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 2915 Main Street, Corning, NY 14830 in Bob's name.\n\n\nBob's family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
