Robert Nicholas McNally, age 84, of Corning, died Friday, June 24, 2016 at Guthrie Corning Hospital.\n\n\nHe was born May 4, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Eileen and John McNally. Bob married Mary Jane Neish on January 13, 1951 at St. Hugh's Church in Philadelphia.\n\n\nBob received his Bachelor of Science degree from La Salle College and a Master of Science from Penn State. He joined Corning Glass in 1958; after serving in various capacities, in 1960 he became part of management in research. He was named director of Ceramic Research in 1990 and retired in 1995.\n\n\nHe served 14 years in the Naval Reserves, was a fellow of the American Ceramic Society, a member of the American Chemical Society, Chemical Society of London and Chairman Subcommittee X1, International Commission on Glass Refractories Institute of Ceramic Engineers. He was past local Chairman of the Western New York Ceramic Society and received the Keramis Ceramic Award in 1977.\n\n\nHe is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; daughter, Deborah (Michael) Baker of Fetcham, England; son, Robert (Victoria) McNally of New Canaan, CT; granddaughter, Sarah McNally of Arlington, VA; and sister, Rosemarie (Norton) Ayoub of Southampton, PA.\n\n\nHe was a member of All Saints Parish attending St. Mary's Church in Corning.\n\n\nFriends may call at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 East First Street in Corning on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 6 - 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church, 155 State Street in Corning on Thursday, June 30 at 9:30AM.\n\n\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bob's name may be made to La Salle College High School, 8605 Cheltonham Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19038.\n\n\nBob's family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
