Phyllis R. Johnson, age 89, formerly of Avoca, NY, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Corning Centers.\n\n \n\nPhyllis was born on April 4, 1925, in Westfield, MA, to Julius and Rose Marie (Sedlak) Bodendorf. She was a graduate of Westfield High School and attended the University of Bridgeport, CT. \n\n \n\nShe was a medical technician and office manager in various doctor's offices from 1956 until 1980. She took up the ministry until her retirement in 1998. She dearly loved to play chess and write poetry and was interested in animal welfare.\n\n \n\nShe is survived by one daughter, Robin (David) Cleland of Avoca, NY; brother, Eric Bodendorf of Raymond, NH; sister, Pamela (Larry) Burdick of Florrisant, MO; four granddaughters: Jeanette (Don) Boucher of Drury, MA, Tania (Roy) Gavitt of Stoneville, NC, Dorian Keeney of Cornelius, NC, Christiane (Steve) Smith of Summerset, SD; 9 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Bodendorf of Westfield, MA; several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was predeceased by her brothers, Warren and Bruce.\n\n\nServices will be held at the convenience of the family.\n\n \n\nPhyllis' family entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
