Myron A. "Mike" Smith, age 86, of Painted Post, NY died Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Guthrie Corning Hospital. \n\n\nMike was born July 29, 1929 in Corning to Myron and Gladys (Mattison) Smith. He was a 1947 graduate of Northside High School and graduated in 1952 from Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree.\n\n\nMike married the love of his life, Margaret Smythe, on June 27, 1953 in Gloversville, NY and served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. He was employed by Corning Incorporated as a Project Manager and was a Patent Holder for an Electrical Furnace.\n\n\nHe was an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, NYS Licensed Professional Engineer, Clerk of Session for the Presbyterian Church, American Red Cross Board, and the Salvation Army Advisory Board. Mike was an Eagle Scout and Quartermaster Sea Scout and in his leisure time enjoyed golf and photography.\n\n\nMike is survived by his wife, Peg; brother, Ward Smith of Quincy, MA; sister, Gladys O'Meara of Cornelius, NC; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends: Jim (Jessica Franzese) Stewart, Ginny and Joe Gallo, and Rosemary and Curt Hooey. Mike was predeceased by his brother, Edward Smith.\n\n\nFriends may call on Monday, June 27 from 10 - 11AM at the United Church of Painted Post, 201 North Hamilton Street in Painted Post where memorial services will follow at 11:00AM with the Reverend Doctor Glenn R. Kennedy officiating.\n\n\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mike's name to Painted Post Presbyterian Church, 201 North Hamilton Street, Painted Post, NY 14870.
