Matthew Dennis Galvin, age 56, of Corning, NY died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at his home in Corning. Matthew was born February 26, 1961, youngest son to Thomas and Lorraine Lepkoske Galvin. He was a graduate of Corning East High School in 1980 and later graduated from Niagara University. Matt, alongside his older brother, worked for many years in the family business as an insurance agent for Galvin & Haines Insurance on Market Street in Corning.\n\nKnown for his warmth, generosity, gentle spirit, and ever-present smile, Matthew was a lover of the outdoors and an avid collector of unique items - from antiques to lake glass to unusual rocks from the creeks feeding the Finger Lakes. He was also an accomplished amateur genealogist, woodworker, cook, and tinkerer. \n\nHe is survived by his father, Thomas F. Galvin; sister, Kathleen "Kiki" Galvin and her wife, Lea Harvey, of Falls Church, VA; brother, Thomas "TJ" Galvin and his wife, Anne Helm Galvin of Painted Post, NY; nephews, Jack and Mason Galvin; and a broader family across the Southern Tier. Matthew was predeceased by his mother, Lorraine Galvin, and brother, Michael Galvin.\n\nA Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 15th, at Saint Mary's Church, 155 State St. in Corning at 11am. \n\nFor those wishing to honor Matthew's life with a memorial, in lieu of flowers, the family requests support to the Finger Lakes Land Trust (www.fllt.org) or the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).\n\nMatthew's family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
