Mary E. Fero

Mary Elizabeth (Tammaro) Fero, age 84, of Corning, NY, died Friday, August 7, 2015, at Steuben Center Health Care Facility with her family by her side.

She was born September 2, 1930, in Corning to Paul and Catherine (Doherty) Tammaro. Mary was a 1948 graduate of Corning Free Academy and a 1952 graduate of SUNY Geneseo. Mary wed Richard O. Fero on July 22, 1961, at St. Patrick's Church in Corning. She was an elementary school teacher in the Corning-Painted Post School District for many years, and touched the lives of countless children. Mary was a communicant of All Saints Parish, cherished time with her family and friends, and enjoyed morning walks around town. She was an avid sports fan, and loved rooting for her beloved Boston Red Sox.

She is survived by her son, Paul (Linda) Fero of Corning, daughter, Catherine (Christopher) Blocher of Lima, NY; grandchildren, Jacquelyn Fero, Kelly (Brandon) Young, Patrick Fero, and Jonathan and Noah Blocher; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was predeceased by both her husband, Richard O. Fero, and her brother, John Paul Tammaro, in 2014.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, August 11th from 4 - 7 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, at St. Mary's Church on State Street in Corning at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
