Mary "Elsie" Delametter, age 84, of Corning passed away Friday June 27, 2014 at her home in Corning NY. She was surrounded by her family. Born April 10, 1930 in Lawrenceville, NY, she was the daughter of William and Helen (Morrell) Johnson. She married Jack Delametter on September 26, 1953 in Malone, NY. She was predeceased by him in 1980. Elsie graduated from Ellis Hospital in Schenectady NY as a Registered Nurse in 1951. She worked for numerous hospitals from 1951 to 1971 when she began working at Corning Founders Pavilion as Head Nurse. In 1974 Elsie accepted a position at the Corning Glass Works as a plant nurse. Elsie was employed by Corning Inc as a Certified Occupational Health Nurse until she retired as Chief Nurse in 1994. Elsie routinely volunteered at Corning Hospital after her retirement. An accomplished Bridge player, Elsie reached the level of Life Master in 2005 and Bronze Life Master in 2009. In addition to Bridge, Elsie enjoyed golf as a member of Indian Hills Country Club, bowled in numerous leagues and was a member of the Corning Area Woman's Club. Her survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Lindstrom of Jacksonville, FL and Mary (William) Wolverton of Bradford, NY; two sons, John Delametter of Isabela, Puerto Rico and Christopher (Colleen) Delametter of Indianapolis, IN; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and Marykay Quiggle of Painted Post NY who was her best friend for the past 53 years. Elsie was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Lavalley, who died in 1974. Calling hours will be Monday, June 30th from 4 -7 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street, Corning, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, July 1st at St. Vincent De Paul, 222 Dodge Avenue in Corning. Burial will be in Malone, NY. Elsie's family entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
