Martha C. "Marty" Drake, age 67, of Painted Post, NY went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Guthrie Corning Hospital.\n\n\nMarty was born on March 9, 1949 in Elmira, NY to David and Mary (Meter) Carter. She married Bruce Drake in 1971 in Horseheads. She was employed by Corning Community College as a receptionist.\n\n\nShe grew up in Elmira, but spent many summers working as a life guard at Camp of the Woods in Speculator New York. When she wasn't spending time making crafts or cooking delicious food for parties and weekends at the lake, she was probably beating her close friends and family at a game of cards. She also loved being a Nana to her grandchildren and travelling to see her family living abroad and for vacation. \n\n\nMarty had a calm spirit and was always willing to lend an ear for those in need. Her laugh was infectious and her one liner jokes were always welcome. With her big heart, she always had time for animals, especially cats. She was a long-time member of Victory Highway Wesleyan Church and developed many close friendships there.\n\n\nShe is survived by her husband Bruce; daughter, Tammy (Xavier) Seneque of Livingston, Scotland; son, Dan (Tracie) Drake of Penfield, NY; mother, Mary Carter; sisters, Joan (Rich) Purdy of Downingtown, PA and Marilyn (Rick) Derksen of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Arianna Seneque, Hannah and Elijah Drake; sister-in-law, Leanne Carter of Austria; several nieces and nephews. Marty was predeceased by her brother Warren Carter.\n\n\nCalling hours will be held on Saturday, January 21st from 1 until 3 PM at Victory Highway Wesleyan Church, 150 Victory Highway in Painted Post where funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Pastor Vaughn VanSkiver officiating.\n\n\nMemorial donations may be made in Marty's name to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.\n\n\nMarty's family entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. in Corning.
