Joyce K. Holmes, age 85, of Hillvue Avenue in Corning went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 31, 2013.\n\n\nJoyce was born on June 5, 1928, in Corning to Carlton and Katherine (Adler) Herrick. She married Edward Holmes on July 27, 1946, in Lindley, NY. She attended North Baptist Church in Corning. Joyce enjoyed painting, quilting, cake decorating, and crocheting. She was a prayer warrior and served alongside her husband as a missionary in Kentucky for 18 years. \n\n\nShe is survived by her husband, Edward; daughter, Carol (Sam) Bowling of Campton, KY; a son, David (Linda) Holmes of Addison; brother, Alton (Catherine) Herrick of Lindley; six grandchildren: Stephanie (Lee) Watson, Stacy (Justin) Thomas, Chad (Becca) Bowling, Jessica (Chris) Adams, Deanna (Keith) Wooten, and Kristen Garrahan; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.\n\n\nJoyce was predeceased by her granddaughter, Ciara Garrahan, and by a sister, Corrinne Swan.\n\n\nCalling hours will be Sunday, August 4 from 2 - 4 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street, Corning, where funeral services will be held on Monday, August 5th at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery.\n\n\nThe family asks that memorials be made to North Baptist Church, 127 Sly Avenue, Corning, NY 14830.\n\n\nJoyce's family has entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
