Joyce B. Carpenter

Joyce B. Carpenter of Big Flats, NY, (formerly of Spencer Hill Road in Corning) went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, October 7, 2015. She was born November 5, 1928, to Ralph S. and Edna (Butler) Clark in Westfield, PA. Joyce graduated from Knoxville High School and Bryant & Stratton Business Institute in Buffalo, NY. She married Paul E. Carpenter on July 25, 1953, in Mansfield, PA, and was predeceased by him in 2000. Joyce worked for Edwin A. Glover, Attorney-at-Law, in Elkland, PA. She volunteered at Corning Salvation Army and was instrumental in starting a women's auxiliary. She also volunteered in the mail room at Toccoa Falls College and was instrumental in forming a women's auxiliary there and acted as its first President. Joyce was a bookkeeper for the funeral home and WCBA radio. She loved crafts, puzzles, and games and she especially enjoyed her Schnauzer dogs. She was affiliated with the Beartown Road Alliance Church and Victory Highway Wesleyan Church. She was organist for a number of churches and the funeral home. She had been Choir Director at the Knoxville Baptist Church and the Caton Bible Chapel. Joyce is survived by her children, Joyanne (Mark) Clark and Jon (Jennifer) Carpenter, both of Corning; stepson, David (Brenda) Carpenter of Ft. Myers, FL; four grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister, Helen Haenszel, Wheaton IL; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Stuart of Corning and Elaine (James) Lawrence of West Palm Beach, FL; several very special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her stepson, Paul Carpenter; sisters: Velma Musser, Arliene Lynn, and Wilma Beard. Calling hours will be held at Beartown Road Alliance Church, 21 Beartown Road, Painted Post, NY from 3 - 6 PM on Sunday, October 11th. Funeral services will be held at the church on Monday, October 12th at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Corning.
