John Robert Kessler, Jr., age 77, of Corning, NY died Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Guthrie Corning Hospital with his family at his side.\n\n \n\nBorn July 21, 1937 in Corning, John was the son of John and Cathryn (Lewis) Kessler, Sr. John served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1958, and married Mary Springer on September 18, 1956 in Hernando, Mississippi. He was employed by Corning Incorporated for over 38 years.\n\n \n\nJohn was a member of All Saints Parish and sang in the church choir and Resurrection Choir. He loved music. He played drums and sang in several local bands along with his father and brother. He was a long-time officer and member of the Local United Federation of Musicians. John coached little league in the area for several years and loved watching it on TV. He enjoyed gardening and growing tomatoes. \n\n \n\nHe is survived by his wife Mary; daughter, Cherie Kessler of Corning; two sons, Jon Rory (Gerianne) Kessler of Elmira and Brian Kessler of Corning; daughter-in-law, Deanne Stevens of Beaver Dams; grandchildren: Sarah Kessler, Roy Springer-Kessler, Brandon (Tiffany) Stevens; great grandchildren, Taylynn Stevens and Dayson Malachi Stevens; sisters-in-law: Joan Robinson, Pat Holleman, and Deanna Keeton; cousins: Ann (Earl) Whitney, William (Sheila) Spak, Nina Malloy and Barbara Kline; aunt , Ethel Coombs; uncle, George Jamison; several nieces, nephews. John was predeceased by his parents; stepmother, Grace Walker Kessler; and a brother, Thomas Kessler.\n\n \n\nFriends may call on Wednesday, October 15th from 6 until 8 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. 216 East First Street in Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church on Thursday at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning.\n\n\nJohn's family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
