John K. Hostrander, 85, of Painted Post, NY, passed away August 10, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 8, 1930, to Lillian (Kohler) Hostrander and E. Bruce Hostrander in Corning, NY. \n\n\nJohn graduated from Painted Post High School in 1948. He was a member of the track team and the football team during his high school years. Following graduation he played with the Corning All-High Semi-Pro Football Team. After graduation he formed his own painting business. In 1953 John joined his father in the lumber business, Hostrander & Son, on Bronson Street in Painted Post. In 1957 the business moved to Park Ave. in Corning, NY, from which he retired in 2007, selling the property to Byrne Dairy which is now located there. \n\n\nJohn is survived by children: Bruce (Ellen) Hostrander of Painted Post; Kimberley Hostrander (Linda DeGolyer) Elmira, NY; Mark (Cathy) Hostrander of Richmond, KY; grandchildren: Daniel Hostrander, Kenneth Hostrander, Stephanie Hostrander, Dylan Hostrander; sister, Audrey (Fred) Whitcomb; nephew, Darrie (Gail) Mase of Liberty, PA, and additional nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Beverly H. Mase. \n\n\nJohn was a family man who devoted his life to his children. He was an avid hunter, had a passion for the outdoors, especially the Adirondack Mountains, and was a Member of the Board of the Painted Post Field & Stream Club and President of the Blue Ridge Club of Indian Lake, NY.\n\n\nAt John's request, there will be no calling hours. A private funeral will be held at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Chapel Knoll Cemetery in Coopers Plains, NY. \n\n\nIn lieu of flowers, donations in John's name may be sent to the Painted Post Field & Stream Club, P.O. Box 325, Corning, NY 14830, or a charity of one's choice.
