John R. "Jack" Bailey, age 76, of Corning, NY and St. Petersburg, FL died Sunday, November 19, 2017 at home with his loving family at his side.\n\nJohn was born on September 11, 1941 in Sayre, PA to John and Bertha (Champion) Bailey. He was a graduate of Towanda High School, received his Bachelor's Degree from Albright College in Reading, PA and a Master's in Education from Elmira College.\n\nHe taught chemistry, math, and coached golfing at Corning-Painted Post West High School after college, before joining Pfizer as a pharmaceutical sales person. John was an avid duplicate bridge player, tennis player, and golfer. He was a loyal Bills and Red Sox fan. He was also a member of the Lions Club and Corning Country Club. He enjoyed horse racing and owned race horses for several years.\n\nHe is survived by his long-time companion, Clare Bavis; a daughter, Lenore (P.J.) O'Hanrahan of Buffalo, NY; brother, Larry (Merry) Bailey of Seminole, FL; grandchildren, Emily, Patrick, Cailey, and Ashley; stepdaughter, Lori Wade of Kentfield, CA; stepson, Jamie Burgess of Wyalusing, PA; several nieces and nephews; a grand puppy, Angel.\n\nPrivate memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning.\n\nMemorial donations may be made in John's name to the Southeast Steuben Public Library.\n\nJohn's family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
