Joan Wilson

Joan R. Wilson, age 82, of Corning, NY, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Guthrie Corning Hospital as the result of a COVID-related illness.

Joan, the eldest of three children, was born on November 12, 1939 in Corning to Joseph and Ruth (Merrick) Menihan.

She attended Corning Northside High School and was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Rochester, NY. She later attended Corning Community College, receiving her degree in Nursing.

Joan had one child with her former husband, L. Gordon Wilson. She was active in the Corning Elks Lodge with her long-time companion, Francis Cowley. She was a member of Corning Hospital Chapter EE, volunteered with American Red Cross blood drives, and coordinated her Northside High Class of 1957 reunions for many years. She enjoyed collecting petit point pottery and treasure hunting at estate sales.

She is survived by her daughter, "Drew" Donna (Wilson) Sacheli and former son in law Roger Sacheli of Vancouver, British Columbia; step-grandchildren, Danielle (Mark) Grambeck and Molly (Zack) Sacheli-Weissman of Rochester, NY; brothers, William Menihan of Mechanicsburg, PA and Robert (Carol) Menihan of Corning, NY; as well as three nieces, one nephew, and chosen family.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Francis Cowley, and Judith (William) Menihan.

A graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 10AM, with Deacon Brian Mazonni officiating.
