Joan C. Sparling

Joan C. Sparling, age 83, of Corning, NY passed away peacefully Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Absolut Care at Three Rivers with her family at her side. Joan was born July 25, 1933 in Elmira, NY to William and Dora (Johnson) Hughson. She married Oscar Harold Sparling on March 7, 1953 at the First United Methodist Church in Corning, she was predeceased by him on April 5, 2007. Joan worked in the Advertising Department at the Corning Leader. She also worked with Hunts Glass Works and Wolcotts's Sporting Goods. Joan was a Girl Scouts troop leader for many years. She worked for the Board of Elections, volunteered at the Severn Elementary School as a lunch monitor, volunteered as a Sunday School teacher for the United Methodist Church for five years and belonged to the Business and Professional Womens Club. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Joan is survived by two daughters: Luanne (Patrick) Gehl of Painted Post, NY, and Cyndy Ferreria of Corning, NY and her son, Harold "Chip" (Patricia) Sparling of Corning, NY; son-in-law, William Ambrose of Canandaigua, NY; grandchildren, Jamison, Heather, Jennifer, Melissa, Adam, Alexyss Cameron, and Ellie; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Joan was predeceased by her daughter, Lugene Ambrose and her brother, William Johnson. Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 6 - 8 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street, Corning, NY. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 29, 2016 in the funeral home with Rev. Constance Seifert officiating. Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery. Joan's family entrusted her care to the Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
