Jo Ellen Cook, age 76, of Painted Post, passed away, Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Guthrie Corning Hospital. Jo Ellen was born on January 27, 1941 in Kane, PA and raised in Smethport, PA. She is the daughter of the late Josepheous and Ethel (Keyser) Brown. She married Norman Cook September 1972 in Corning, NY, where Jo Ellen and her two sons were immediately accepted into the Cook family. She enjoyed many years of camping at Campbell Campgrounds where she was given the nick name of "Jo Jo the Go Go". She enjoyed spending time with everyone, which often included outdoor activities and created a "Brady Bunch" environment. \n\nShe absolutely loved reading a good book, enjoyed listening to music and cooking for her family. Later in life she enjoyed spending time with Norm at the Country Club where she was loved by all of the staff. She always enjoyed and appreciated a glass of fine wine. \n\nShe was always proud of her children and grandchildren's accomplishments. She left an indelible mark in all of their lives. \n\nJo Ellen held a Bachelor's Degree in English from Mansfield University and also attained a Master's Degree in Education. She was an educator at Corning-Painted Post West High School where she helped many students become better people in life. \n\nJo Ellen is survived by her husband: Norman Cook, her son Mark McNaney, Paula and Mike Smith, Mitch and Ellana Cook, Matt Cook, sister, Linda and Lynn Kepler; grandchildren: Gretchen, Tanner, Dalton, Jake, Mason and Logan; nieces and nephews, Stacey, Jacob, and Stella. She was predeceased by her sons, Mike and Shawn McNaney and brother, Steve Brown. \n\nDonations may be sent to Finger Lakes SPCA, 72 Cameron St., Bath, NY 14810 in memory of Jo Ellen Cook. Jo Ellen had a special love for animals. \n\nA celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.\n\nJo Ellen's family has entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
