Janet M. Ortiz, age 77, formerly of Chincoteague Island in Virginia, died Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Corning Centers (Founders Pavilion) in Corning, NY.\n\n\nJanet was born on January 7, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio to Elton and Naomi Fields. She married Ismael Ortiz in 1966 and was preceded in death by him in 1973.\n\nJanet's hobbies included fishing, crabbing, and collecting dolls. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. She enjoyed talking about and spending time with her grandchildren, hanging out with friends, and helping her friends at the fruit stands on Maddox Boulevard. \n\nShe is survived by two sons, Alberto "Jerry" (Candy) Ortiz of Corning and Ismael "Bobby" Ortiz of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Joann Tarr formerly of Chincoteague, VA, four grandchildren, Danielle "Ortiz" Kropp, Tyler Ortiz, Mersadi Ortiz, and Meghan Bodkins; three half-sisters, Emily Taylor, Pauline Hammer, and Mary Clement.
