James P. Manley, age 75, of Eagle Trace in Corning, NY went home to be with his Lord on Monday, August 27, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born July 4, 1937 in Corning and graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany with Operation Gyroscope. He married Rita Eldred on August 4, 1962 at North Baptist Church in Corning. Jim worked for Corning Glass Works for 37 years as a millwright and supervisor of the machine shop. After retirement from Corning Glass, he went to work for Cameron Manufacturing & Design in Horseheads in sales for 18 years. Jim was a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. He served in many capacities in local churches as a youth leader, Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Board Chairman, and is currently a member of East Lindley Baptist Church. Jim loved travelling with his wife Rita, and had been to over 50 countries, 49 states, and 5 continents. He enjoyed bird watching and had a Life List of 368 birds. He was an avid runner and had run many road races with his children. He is survived by his wife of 50 years; one son, James (Debra) Manley, Jr. of Corning; one daughter, Lori (John) Haig of Corning; three grandchildren, Johnathan Manley of Horseheads, Sara Manley of Horseheads, and Katherine Haig of Corning; two sisters, Peggy Manley of Ithaca and Rebecca Buck of Lindley; three brothers, Harry Manley of Lindley, Maynard Manley of Albion, and Jerry Manley of Troy, PA; special brother-in-law, Donald (Teresa) Terwilliger of Elmira; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Henry Enderle. Calling hours will be Friday, August 31 from 5 until 8 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First Street, Corning, and again on Saturday September 1st at the East Lindley Baptist Church, 10039 Tannery Creek Road from 10 until 11 AM where funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with the Reverends Sheldon Roblyer and Bruce Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Barnard Cemetery, Corning. Memorial donations may be made in Jim's name to the East Lindley Baptist Church, 10039 Tannery Creek Road, Corning, NY 14830.
