James R. Dale, age 88, of Caton, NY died Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY. \n\n\nJim was born on September 16, 1927 in Towanda, PA to William and Pansy (Spicer) Dale. Jim was a graduate of Central High School in Scranton, PA and served his country during World War II in the United States Navy and Army. He married Virginia Van Dusen on October 16, 1954 at the South Corning United Methodist Church. He was a Patrolman for 28 years with the Corning Police Department where he retired in 1979. He also worked for The FoodMart in South Corning for 20 years. \n\n\nJim enjoyed traveling, camping, morning coffee, cutting down trees for firewood, winning at cards, talking openly with anyone and everyone, spending time with his family and friends. \n\n\nHe is survived by his wife Virginia; sons, Eric Dale and Mark (Lynn) Dale; grandchildren, Benjamin (Cathy) Dale, Emily Dale, Matthew (Kristin) Dale, and Stephanie Dale; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his brother William.\n\n\nAt Jim's request, there will be a private graveside service at Chapel Knoll Cemetery with Reverend Patrick Holder officiating.\n\n\nMemorial donations may be made to Corning Painted Post Masonic Lodge #168, 122 Reynolds Avenue, Corning, NY 14830 or to the South Corning United Methodist Church, 12 Caton Road, Corning, NY 14830.\n\n\nJim's family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
