Irene A. (Garrison) Burnham, age 88, of Corning, died Friday, August 4, 2017 at Corning Center for Rehabilitation in Corning.\n\n\nIrene was born on December 6, 1928 in Millerton, PA to Rexford and Helen (Brewer) Smith. She graduated from Millerton High School and worked for Remmington Rand during the war. Irene worked as a child care provider for families in the Millerton area and worked for Westinghouse in Horseheads. She worked at Showboat in Himrod, NY as a cook and baker. She regularly attended Methodist Churches in Millerton, Freer, TX, Starkey, and Corning. She volunteered for Millerton Fire Department Auxiliary, Cub Scouts, and United Methodist Women's at Grace United Methodist Church, and Corning Hospital. She loved gardening, baking, cooking, and entertaining in her home. \n\n\nIrene is survived by her son Barry (Sue) Garrison of Corning; sister, Virginia Stephens of Tioga, PA; grandchildren, Shannon (David) Wood of Chagrin Falls, OH, Brent (Katie) Garrison of Dresden, NY, Michael (Elizabeth) Garrison of Dresden, NY, Megan Garrison of Hornby, Ryan (Tie) Garrison of Corning; great grandchildren, Emily, William, Tegan, Marley, Finnagan, Chance, and Arya; brother-in-law, Harold Baker of Millerton; several nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her brother, Delbert Smith and her sister, Evelyn Baker. She is also survived by special friends, Irene Miller and Sally Hovey.\n\n\nCalling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 8th from 4 - 6 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning where funeral services will follow at 6:00 PM with Reverend E. Susan Wenner officiating. Burial will be in Grove Mount Cemetery in Himrod, NY. \n\n\nThe family will provide flowers and ask that memorials be made in Irene's name to www.arthritis.org.\n\n\nIrene's family entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
